In July, AGD exhibited at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Annual Meeting in Orlando and in August AGD exhibited at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.

These meetings allow AGD staff and volunteer leaders to speak with scores of state legislators, from around the country and from both political parties, about the policy issues that affect general dentistry, including mid-level providers, workforce, access to care, insurance reform and the importance of community water fluoridation to public health.

Going forward, AGD state constituencies can use these initial contacts to develop relationships with the legislators and serve as a resource for them when issues affecting dentistry arise in the state capitol. The legislators were very supportive of AGD's issues and the profession of dentistry.  The relationships developed from these meetings should help these legislators be receptive to AGD's advocacy efforts in the future.

Impact on General Dentistry:  Exhibiting at ALEC and NCSL allows AGD to speak directly to state policymakers about important issues affecting general dentistry.  These contacts increase awareness of AGD with leading legislators and improve AGD's ability to effectively advocate going forward.  Advocacy is about building relationships and exhibiting at ALEC and NCSL helps these relationships with state legislators grow.
