On Monday, President Biden sent his Fiscal Year 2023 budget proposal for the U.S. government to Congress. The $5.8 trillion proposal highlights the administration’s legislative priorities and largely serves as a blueprint for congressional Democrats to consider as they kickoff the appropriations process for the next fiscal year beginning October 1, 2022.

The budget calls for $813 billion in funding for national defense, increasing the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%, a minimum tax of 20% on households earning more than $100 million, $880 million for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, and $81.7 billion over the next five years for pandemic preparedness and biodefense.

Congressional committees will hold hearings on Biden’s budget in the coming weeks.
