The House is expected to adjourn for the August recess as early as Aug. 4, with a return date of Sept. 5, 2017. The Senate was originally scheduled to follow suit, but Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced earlier this month that he would delay the start of his chamber’s recess by two weeks in hopes of ironing out a health care deal and to address other pressing legislative items. Nonetheless, both House and Senate lawmakers will return in September to a full plate including legislation to fund the government; raise the debt ceiling; and potentially a budget that sets up a major overhaul of the tax code.

Impact on General Dentistry: The August recess presents an excellent opportunity for AGD members to meet with their elected officials in their districts to discuss issues of importance to general dentistry and oral health.
