On July 19–22, AGD hosted its annual scientific session, AGD2023, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The meeting invited general dentists, dental team members and others in the dental profession to experience exceptional hands-on courses, inspiring lectures, fun networking events in the exhibit hall, and the opportunity to connect with others committed to excellence in dentistry.

“AGD’s meetings are always known for exceptional hands-on courses that specifically relate to the needs of general dentists,” said Hans Guter, DDS, FAGD, AGD president. “I heard so many compliments on the value to these experiences and the opportunity to connect with others who want to grow their skills in new areas to help strengthen the care they provide to patients. The wide range of courses, combined with so many networking opportunities, made this truly an excellent event. We also offered hybrid programming with virtual courses to support members who couldn’t attend in person.”

A special highlight of the meeting was former NFL quarterback Jim Kelly, who shared a series of personal challenges and insights on how he faced each, and how he works every day to persevere. He continues to be his best to support his family, fans and a series of causes that are important to him. Kelly, an oral cancer survivor, took the NFL’s Buffalo Bills to the Super Bowl four times but never saw victory. In addition to his own health issues, he lost his son to Krabbe’s Leukodystrophy, a rare and fatal disease that he was diagnosed with at birth. He maintains that an unyielding spirit and belief, positive attitude and perseverance can overcome setbacks.

New dentists and dental students were able to access a series of special programming in the New Dentist Lounge. These programs were designed to help those early in their career find tools and resources to help them on a path to success. Networking and mentorship events were held during the meeting, and student chapter awards were presented.

Each year, AGD's scientific session highlights research and discoveries in dentistry. Dental students showcase their work during the annual E-Poster Sessions. Awards are presented and include the following individuals:
