Cone beam computed tomography was used to evaluate the removal of calcium hydroxide (Ca[OH]₂) from root canals after use of different irrigation activation protocols. While none of the protocols could completely remove Ca(OH)₂, protocols using strong chelators were the most effective.

A 13-year-old boy presented with asymptomatic swelling in his right posterior mandible and was diagnosed with ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO), a rare mixed odontogenic tumor, usually appearing as a well-circumscribed radiolucency with radiopaque foci and slow growth. Eight months after excision of the AFO, a dentigerous cyst involving the unerupted mandibular left third molar developed.

Syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum, can manifest clinically through 3 stages: primary, secondary, and tertiary. This report describes an uncommon case of secondary syphilis in a 16-year-old boy who showed only oral manifestations. Treatment with penicillin led to complete remission of the oral lesions within 3 weeks.

To evaluate surface fluorination as an alternative treatment for bonding of zirconia ceramic to resin cement, zirconia discs were subjected to 1 of 4 different surface treatments. Bond strength testing revealed that fluorination with sulfur hexafluoride did not promote a stable bond strength between zirconia and resin cement.

This study compared the effects of immediate or delayed polishing on the color stability of a composite resin before and after storage in water or coffee. Color stability was not influenced by the timing of polishing, and all groups showed unacceptable discoloration after exposure to coffee. The timing of final polishing may therefore be based on the preferences of the clinician.

A 40-year-old woman had diastemas, a conoid tooth, and relatively short maxillary anterior teeth, compromising the esthetics of her smile. Treatment included bleaching and composite resin restorations. At a 1-year follow-up, there were no black spaces or signs of periodontal inflammation, indicating that adequate space had been left for formation of interdental papilla.
