Step 2: Register For The Exam

To register for the AGD Fellowship Exam, download the FAGD Exam Application, and send it, along with your payment, to AGD. You can choose to take the exam in one of three ways:
  1. At the AGD Scientific Session. The exam will be in a paper-and-pencil format. You can register separately for the exam by downloading the registration form and sending it to AGD. You may also register on-site up to and including the morning of the exam.
  2. During the Fall Fellowship Review Course. The exam will be in a paper-and-pencil format. You register to sit for the exam immediately following the review course, which is given annually at various locations.
  3. At an SMT/Prometric testing center. Take a computerized version of the exam, offered year-round at SMT/Prometric testing centers throughout the United States and Canada. Complete the exam application at least two weeks in advance of the date on which you plan to take the exam. Once you have submitted your application and fee to AGD, SMT/Prometric will send you an email containing your user ID and password, which you will need to schedule a testing appointment.

Note: During the months of October, November and December, exam seats typically fill up quickly. Schedule your appointment at least three weeks in advance of the date on which you plan to take the exam.

Getting Started

You can take the AGD Fellowship Exam at an AGD Scientific Session, during the Fall Fellowship Review Course and Exam, or at a Schroeder Measurement Technologies Inc. (SMT) testing site near you.

The exam consists of approximately 250 multiple-choice questions and is administered during a one-day, four-hour testing session. It includes material from all dental disciplines and emphasizes the clinical application of accepted dental knowledge, techniques and procedures.

Any active general dentist or associate member who joined AGD after February 2010 will be subject to a 7-day waiting period prior to applying for or sitting for, the AGD Fellowship Exam, in order to verify his or her membership status. AGD student members are not eligible to take the exam until they have attained their dental license and have transitioned from student to active AGD member.
