The AGD Advocacy Fund supports national and constituent advocacy efforts by providing resources to tackle new matters, such as legislation or legal action affecting the practice of general dentistry.

On November 16, 2023, President Biden signed a “laddered” continuing resolution (CR) into law, entitled the Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act, 2024 to avert a government shutdown as federal funding was set to expire on November 17, 2023.

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) installed Merlin P. Ohmer, DDS, MAGD, as president during its Annual Meeting, Nov.10-12, in Chicago. Ohmer, who recently served as the organization’s president-elect, steps into this role after serving the organization and the dentistry profession in a variety of leadership roles.

Winland was a general dentist from Athens, Ohio, and served as AGD editor for 24 years before retiring from that role in 2020. He died in August 2022. Winland’s wife Debra accepted the award.

Michael Lacey, DMD, MAGD, received the prestigious AGD Humanitarian Award during the AGD annual meeting in Chicago on Nov. 10, 2023.

Alabama general dentist Gordon R. Isbell, III, DMD, MAGD, is the Academy of General Dentistry’s (AGD) 2023 recipient for the Mark S. Ritz Advocate for Dentistry Award. The award was presented to Isbell during AGD’s Annual Meeting on Nov. 10 in Chicago, IL. Isbell is only the sixth AGD member to receive this prestigious award since its inception

Pennsylvania Dentist Dave A. Sullivan, DMD, MAGD, was recently presented the Humanitarian Award by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) during its annual meeting on Nov. 10, 2023, in Chicago.

AGD recently re-elected Timothy F. Kosinski, DDS, MAGD, as the AGD editor during its annual meeting on Nov. 12 in Chicago. This is his second term as editor, and previously served as associate editor.

Robert M. Peskin, DDS, FAGD, elected AGD speaker of the house during its annual meeting on Nov. 12 in Chicago. Peskin will continue his role with years of experience presiding over official governing bodies.

AGD’s House of Delegates installed new officers during its annual meeting, Nov. 10–12. Merlin P. Ohmer, DDS, MAGD, a general dentist from Florida, was named president.

Working at the local level, AGD constituencies do tremendous work to advance AGD’s mission and vision. Their outstanding efforts were recognized during AGD’s annual meeting.
