2026 Dr. Chethan and Avani Chetty Scholarship Winner

Mackenzie Bankes

Student at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry

"Attending the AGD scientific session will significantly support my development as a general dentist by strengthening both my clinical competence and professional identity. As a dental student preparing to transition into independent practice, exposure to evidence-based lectures and hands-on workshops will enhance my understanding of contemporary techniques in restorative dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, and comprehensive treatment planning. Learning directly from experienced clinicians will help bridge the gap between didactic education and real-world application, equipping me with practical strategies I can confidently implement in patient care. Beyond clinical advancement, the scientific session offers valuable insight into emerging technologies, materials, and practice management principles. Understanding innovations such as digital workflows, minimally invasive procedures, and interdisciplinary collaboration will allow me to deliver efficient, patient centered care. Additionally, sessions focused on ethics, risk management, and communication will reinforce the professional standards essential to maintaining trust and excellence in practice. Equally impactful is the opportunity to network with seasoned general dentists who prioritize lifelong learning. Engaging with mentors and peers who are committed to continuing education will inspire me to pursue Fellowship and Mastership within the AGD, reinforcing a career long commitment to growth. Observing how accomplished practitioners integrate leadership, service, and clinical excellence into their careers will shape my own professional goals. Ultimately, attending the AGD scientific session will cultivate confidence, expand my clinical perspective, and deepen my dedication to comprehensive, ethical, and patient-focused general dentistry." - Mackenzie Bankes
