The most difficult part of learning how to express emotions effectively is developing the ability to identify what you are feeling. Emotions can disguise themselves. This month, AGD Impact columnists Dr. Eric S. Studley and Dr. Ivy D. Peltz explore how expressing emotions effectively can result in improved relationships.

The AGD Advocacy Fund supports national and constituent advocacy efforts by providing resources to tackle new matters, such as legislation or legal action affecting the practice of general dentistry.

To get recognized as a Fellow, Master or Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition recipient at AGD2024 in Minneapolis, July 17–20, all requirements must be completed and applications submitted on or before Dec. 31, 2023.

A new study in General Dentistry determines the number of incidental findings (IFs) that are detected on CBCT scans but not visible on periapical or panoramic images. The results will teach clinicians exactly which IFs are most likely to appear on routine 2D scans, improving diagnosis of disease and overall patient care.

Achieving effective and efficient communication among all members of a dental team is one of the most important aspects of any successful practice. But why does stellar communication remain so elusive in many dental practices?

The Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act of 2021 is a law passed as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, focused on training for prescribers of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment drugs and requires health care providers, including dentists, to complete a one-time training on managing patients with SUDs as a condition of receiving or renewing a registration to prescribe controlled substances.

On July 19, 2023, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), along with several other dental organizations, sent a letter to the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) Committee on Health Insurance & Long-Term Care Issues, urging them to adopt the Medical Loss Ratios (MLR) for Dental Health Care Services Plans Model Act (the Model Act).

A new article in General Dentistry reports on two cases of mandibular third molar displacement into deep fascial spaces during attempted extraction — one of which resulted in acute infection. In addition to treatment approaches, the article reviews the risk factors for tooth displacement and techniques for prevention.
