By the end of June most state legislatures have ended their sessions for 2023 and adjourned for the year. In addition to medical loss ratio legislation, dentists continued to advocate for insurance reform in the state capitols.

Illinois and Minnesota enacted legislation to both allow dentists to opt out when networks are leased to third parties and to prevent insurers from paying claims with fee carrying virtual credit cards.

New Mexico passed a bill that included third-party network leasing reforms, a ban on paying claims with virtual credit cards as well as limiting when an insurer can deny claims that have been previously authorized and providing for assignment of benefits.

Impact on General Dentistry: AGD will continue to advocate for insurance reform at the state level to provide a better practice environment for both dentists and their patients.
