AGD Leads Organized Dentistry Letter Supporting S.5073
The AGD led an Organized Dentistry Coalition (ODC) letter supporting S.5073 the Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act of 2022. 19 national dental organizations signed onto the letter to endorse the legislation and advocate for the promotion of oral health literacy (OHL).
S.5073 would establish a public health education campaign across existing Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) programs to promote OHL. The campaign would use tested, evidence-based strategies to target vulnerable populations who are disproportionately afflicted by poor oral health and disease. S.5073 will provide racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly, pregnant women, individuals with disabilities, and other underserved groups with the tools necessary to seek out regular dental care and prevent the development of serious disease.
Impact on General Dentistry: AGD has championed OHL legislation in Congress. The legislation will help make oral health literacy a public health priority, leading to increased funding and other support for oral health literacy related education, research, and interventions.
