In a letter led by the American Dental Association (ADA), AGD and 11 other dentist and health organizations nominated Dr. Teresa Marshall to serve on the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee in response to the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Federal Register notice on June 15th (87 FR 36137).

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is a compendium of recommendations about what, and how much, to eat and drink to meet nutrient needs, prevent disease, and promote health. The Department of Agriculture and HHS jointly update the Dietary Guidelines every five years based on the recommendations of a panel of experts known as the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

Dr. Marshall is a registered dietician and a nationally recognized professor and researcher of human nutrition at the University of Iowa. She directs the Student Research Program at the College of Dentistry, where she also coordinates and teaches the nutrition curriculum.

Impact on General Dentistry: The AGD is proud to support the nomination of Dr. Teresa Marshall to serve on the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. Dr. Marshall is a well-published and outcome-driven researcher who has contributed significantly to the field of dentistry. In 2016, Colgate, the ADA, and the American Association for Dental Research presented Dr. Marshall with the Award for Leadership in Implementing Evidence-Based Dentistry.
