Carole Johnson will assume her role as the new Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) this month. Johnson most recently served as Testing Coordinator for the White House’s COVID-19 Response Team. Before joining the Biden administration, Johnson served as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Human Services and as the public health lead for the White House’s Domestic Policy Council under the Obama administration.

Johnson’s appointment was announced in a press release last month by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra. He stated, “with Carole Johnson’s return, HHS gains a leader for its HRSA with deep health expertise who has been integral to the Biden-Harris administration’s fight against COVID-19. Not only does Carole know how to leverage the most effective tools to battle the most pressing public health challenges, she has a strong track record of getting results at the state and national level.”

Impact on General Dentistry: AGD looks forward to working with Administrator Johnson to bring attention to the oral health care needs of the vulnerable populations served by HRSA. AGD will continue to advocate for new and existing HRSA programs that support underserved populations.
