TAKE ACTION: Urge the Senate to Preserve the PTET Deduction

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its reconciliation package containing a harmful provision that would increase taxes on small business dental practices. If enacted, the legislation would prevent these practices from deducting state-level pass-through entity taxes (PTET) on their federal returns. PTET deductions help reduce the harm of the cap on state and local tax (SALT) deductions and allow small dental practices and other pass-through businesses to receive fair tax treatment relative to other types of business entities.

The reconciliation legislation is now under consideration in the U.S. Senate, and its impact on general dentistry practices cannot be understated. Without changes to the bill, many dental providers will face higher taxes on top of already rising costs for staffing, equipment, and operations. These financial pressures could force small dental practices to reduce staff and essential services, thereby limiting access to dental care, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

AGD urges its membership to contact their U.S. Senators and tell them to protect the PTET deduction and save small business dental practices from unfair tax hikes.
