Academy of General Dentistry Names Mai-Ly Duong, DMD, MPH, MAEd, MAGD, Faculty Advisor of the Year
The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) has named Mai-Ly Duong, DMD, MPH, MAEd, MAGD, its 2026 Faculty Advisor of the Year. She was selected by her peers for her exceptional commitment to student mentorship, leadership development and the advancement of organized dentistry.
Duong serves as a full-time associate professor at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in The Center for Advanced Oral Health. She works to support students, residents and faculty members in treating individuals with special needs and complex medical conditions. As faculty advisor for the AGD student chapter there, Duong has cultivated a culture of engagement, professional identity and lifelong involvement in organized dentistry.
After graduating from A.T. Stills University of Health Sciences with her Doctor in Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) and her Masters in Public Health (MPH), she completed a certificate in advanced education in general dentistry from New York University Langone Medical Center. She also completed a master’s in education (MAEd) with dental emphasis from the University of the Pacific. Her many accomplishments include earning the prestigious Mastership (MAGD) and Fellowship (FAGD) from AGD and has also been recognized with fellowships from the Special Care Dentistry Association, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Nominators described her as an authentic and inspiring leader who models the very engagement she encourages in others.
“Dr. Duong has remained active at the student, constituent, regional and national levels of the AGD, building relationships with members across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to expand opportunities for the students she advises,” said Marc J. Worb, DDS, FAGD, AGD president. “Duong has also introduced students to the care of patients with special needs, broadening their clinical perspectives and reinforcing the values of compassion and advocacy in practice.”
Duong is currently a member of the AGD Board and has served in other roles including regional director and locally for the Arizona AGD. She also works as an associate dentist at Sundance Dental Care.
"Her genuine care for students, combined with her leadership and dedication, has left a lasting impact on countless individuals," said Mackenzie Otter Schneider, DMD, award nominator. "Without her influence and encouragement, I would not have been as involved in the AGD today."
