Kimberly R. Wright, DMD, MAGD, was recently elected vice president of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) during its Annual Meeting held November 14-16 in Chicago. Wright, a longtime leader within AGD and the Oregon dental community, previously served as secretary. She brings decades of experience, vision and passion for organized dentistry to her new role.

“I welcome the challenges ahead and am confident that the leadership experience I’ve gained throughout my professional life will serve us well,” Wright said. “Together, we can ensure AGD not only thrives today but continues to grow into the future.”

Wright’s journey with organized dentistry began in the mid-1980s, when she was still a dental student and she has remained deeply engaged ever since. From her earliest days as a committee member to her service as a trustee for the Oregon Dental Association, Wright has built a career marked by collaboration, advocacy and mentorship.

Her connection to the Oregon AGD has been especially meaningful. Known for her tireless energy and focus on member engagement, Wright played an instrumental role in leading Oregon AGD to one of the highest general dentist membership rates in the country. She also helped bring to life the Oregon AGD Foundation Center, a 7,000-square-foot education facility completed in 2019. Working alongside a dedicated team, Wright helped raise $1 million in donations and an additional $1 million in equipment contributions to make the state-of-the-art center a reality.

“Dr. Wright embodies the spirit of AGD a commitment to education, innovation and service,” said Mark J. Worob, DDS, FAGD, president of the Academy of General Dentistry. “Her leadership, particularly in strengthening our constituents and expanding opportunities for professional growth, continues to shape the organization’s future in inspiring ways.”

In her national leadership roles, Wright has served as chair of the Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) Council, and member of the Budget and Finance Committee. AS AGD secretary, she played a key role in modernizing AGD’s policies and Board operations. Her work leading the revision of the Board Policy Manual reflects her dedication to ensuring that AGD remains efficient, transparent and responsive to its members.

Wright’s colleagues describe her as a “visionary realist” someone who balances big-picture strategy with a hands-on, thoughtful approach to problem solving. Her leadership philosophy centers on listening, inclusion and data-informed decision-making.
