We’ve all directly followed a leader in our lifetime. Whether it be a coach, teacher, manager or even a parent. That being said, I’m sure we’ve all had experience with a bad coach, bad teacher, bad manager or bad parent. Just because these people are put in roles of leadership, doesn’t make them a good leader.

So what DOES make a person a good leader?

If I were to ask two people their idea of the perfect leader, most likely, their answers would be completely different. To be a good leader, you have to recognize the different styles of leadership and discover which styles work best for each individual on your team.

You have to adapt to the environment you are placed in rather than change the styles of people around you. The goal is to bring out the best in everyone around you to create a trusting culture and achieve optimum results.

These skills don’t come over night. They have to be learned, applied, and practiced.
