Chicago, IL - The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) has released its September 2025 issue of AGD Impact. The new issue delivers a fresh perspective into the evolving practice of general dentistry with information for dental professionals at every stage of their careers.
The cover story, “Exploring the Overlap of Personal and Professional Lives in Dentistry,” explores the interaction between these two lives from both financial and emotional perspectives. When dentists dedicate their days to patient care and practice management, it can be hard to leave work chairside and in the office. The boundaries between personal and professional can quickly blur. How much overlap is too much?
Here’s what you can expect in the other columns and features:
Taxes – The September issue offers a feature story, “What Dentists Need to Know About New Tax Laws in 2026,” that offers insight into changes under the new One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Readers receive an important update on how these changes, including new deductions and exemptions, affect dental practice owners.
Ethics – The Ethics column, “The Ethics of Well-Being – A Reimagined Professionalism,” describes how dentists can truly create spaces that heal. They have a responsibility beyond “doing no harm” that extends to actively promoting good. Examining self-care practices, participating in mindfulness exercises and promoting positive leadership styles can all help further this goal.
Student Perspectives – Columnist Brooklyn Janes reflects on recent movements and events in the dentistry field, among them Nevada’s Senate Bill 495 and the broader tensions between dentists and hygienists. She underscores the importance of professional organization membership, consistent communication and fostering stronger collaborations. Janes argues that respect, teamwork and engagement, not division, are essential to improving access to care, strengthening the profession and ensuring patient-centered outcomes.
The Testing the Tools column is back this month with product reviewer Ross Isbell, DMD, MBA, evaluating three products shaping daily practice. Lumadent ErgoPrism Air Loupes (4th Gen, 5×) help dentists maintain upright posture and reduce neck and shoulder strain. The Orban Knife by Karl Schumacher offers a precise, efficient upgrade to the standard periosteal elevator. Finally, Emdogain® by Straumann® provides a proven regenerative solution to support tissue regrowth and improve periodontal outcomes.
