Description

This course equips dental professionals with the skills needed to support parents. Dental professionals are uniquely positioned to detect early signs of feeding dysfunction, oral restrictions and growth delays. By identifying infant risk factors early, providers become trusted allies in lifelong health. Participants will learn how to identify common concerns in infants, recognize when referral or intervention is warranted, and deliver anticipatory guidance with empathy and clarity.

Learning Objectives 

  • Understand the importance of oral health during pregnancy.
  • Describe the impact of pregnancy on oral health and how to educate expectant mothers.
  • Discuss differences between types of infant feeding in relation to oral health.
  • Correlate the connections between feeding issues and oral habits with poor oral growth and development.

Speaker Bio  

Joy Lantz, RDH, PHDH, COM, IBCLC, is a dental educator, consultant and clinician advancing integrative prevention-focused care. IAOM-certified in orofacial myology and IBCLC, she teaches patients, parents and professionals; consults with practices on airway-centered care; and empowers dental and medical teams to collaborate in early screening for oral myofunctional and airway disorders.
