Description
Medical-dental integration has been discussed for several decades, with cost savings as part of the literature since 2014. The primary research to be discussed is from the Mayo Clinic, which eliminates selection bias present in many other studies while demonstrating financial value to the healthcare system and increasing revenue for the dentist. The dentist and office staff are keys to this process, which also serves as a practice builder. The incorporation of health screening tools that provide value to the patient interview and interoperability by accessing real-time data will be discussed.
Learning Objectives
- Identify what dental procedures and frequency result in a decrease in overall healthcare costs.
- Demonstrate how research regarding a person’s overall health eliminates selection bias.
- Access patient medical data to prevent delays in dental treatment or referral.
