Description
The COVID-19 pandemic presented the latest challenge to infection control in both medical and dental facilities. This seminar will primarily focus on a practical discussion of the most recent dental infection control recommendations. Discussion sections include hand hygiene, sharps safety, recommended vaccinations, personal protective equipment (PPE), instrument- and handpiece-reprocessing, environmental surface disinfection, and dental water treatment.

- Describe application of standard precautions as the foundation of infection prevention.
- Understand the most recent updates for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration infection control recommendations and regulations.
- Describe recent technological advances and protocols for instrument-processing and surface disinfection.
- Comprehend practical strategies that can minimize dental unit waterline contamination.
John A. Molinari, PhD, is professor emeritus at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where he served for 32 years as chair of the department of biomedical sciences and director of infection control. Later, he was director of infection control for The Dental Advisor, where his laboratory was involved in research on new, emerging infection control technologies and products. He has over 600 publications, was a consultant for the CDC, American Dental Association and regional hospitals, and he continues to lecture on topics dealing with infectious diseases and infection control.
