On September 19, 2025, President Trump issued a proclamation entitled, Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers, introducing significant changes to the H-1B nonimmigrant visa program. Under the proclamation, all H-1B petitions submitted after 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on September 21, 2025, must include a payment of $100,000. President Trump has stated that the proclamation does not apply to any previously issued H-1B visas or petitions submitted prior to the effective date, and does not affect fees for H-1B renewals. The Trump Administration has indicated that exemptions may be granted for some employees in the medical field, though additional details are not yet available.

Impact on General Dentistry: The $100,000 fee may have a significant impact on the hiring of foreign-trained dentists. AGD will continue to monitor these policy developments and advocate for solutions that protect patient care and support the dental workforce.
