FTC Announces Workshop on Noncompete Agreements
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced it will host a workshop entitled, Moving Forward: Protecting Workers from Anticompetitive Noncompete Agreements. The workshop, hosted by FTC’s Labor Task Force, will feature remarks from FTC Commissioners, as well as discussions with policy experts, economists, advocates, and individuals affected by noncompete agreements. The workshop will be held on October 8, 2025 and is open to the public.
The announcement of the event follows FTC’s recent enforcement actions against anticompetitive noncompete agreements, including letters to employers and staffing agencies urging them to review and potentially eliminate noncompete agreements that may restrict worker mobility and reduce patient access to care. The agency emphasized that unjustified or overly broad noncompete agreements can harm competition and limit patient access to care, especially in underserved areas.
Impact on General Dentistry: FTC’s upcoming workshop and recent enforcement actions indicate that noncompete agreements remain a priority area for the agency. AGD encourages dentists and dental practices to review their employment agreements to ensure compliance with state laws and FTC guidance.
