Earlier this month, AGD hosted an introductory meeting with Dr. Adam Barefoot, the newly appointed Chief Dental Officer (CDO) of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). As CDO, Dr. Barefoot provides leadership and coordination on all oral health policies and initiatives at HRSA and serves as the agency’s dental liaison to government agencies, universities, and stakeholder organizations.

During the meeting, Dr. Gerry Botko, AGD President, and Dr. Mike Bromberg, AGD Congressional Liaison, reinforced AGD’s longstanding collaboration with the CDO to improve the oral health of the vulnerable populations served by HRSA. AGD discussed HRSA’s progress in developing an oral health literacy education campaign, AGD’s advocacy of the Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act (H.R.4555), and the status of other oral health related programs at HRSA.

Impact on General Dentistry: The AGD stands ready to work with CDO Barefoot and his staff to raise awareness of oral health issues, advance oral health programs, and improve health outcomes at HRSA.
