Description

The clinical practice of dental caries removal has changed significantly in the last hundred years. Advances in adhesive dentistry and a better understanding of oral microbiology have led to a radical shift in caries removal, which has allowed dental professionals to be more conservative with healthy tooth structure, in turn saving chair time, expenses and, most importantly, ideal dental function for patients. This course, based on current dental literature, is designed to give practical clinical tips on utilizing the selective caries removal technique as well as its indications and contraindications.

Speaker Bio
  
Lt. Cmdr. Matt Rouse, DDS, MSD, attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2011. After graduation, he was assigned to 2D Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center Camp Lejeune, where he completed an advanced education in general dentistry (AEGD) residency program from 2011 to 2012 and served as assistant dental officer for an additional year, qualifying as a fleet marine force warfare officer in 2013. He was then selected to attend postgraduate dental training in operative and preventive dentistry at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. Upon successful completion of the three-year program with a Master of Science in Dentistry, he was assigned to the 1st Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. There, he was assigned the duties of general dentistry department head for the Miramar clinic and command preventive dentistry consultant. In September 2017, Rouse deployed in support of Operation Pacific Angel 17-2 (Vietnam) as the dental officer-in-charge and led a dental team providing humanitarian healthcare assistance to hundreds of Vietnamese citizens. In May 2018, Rouse transferred to Branch Dental Clinic Sewell’s Point at Naval Station Norfolk, where he served as director of the AEGD residency program for two years. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Operative Dentistry and member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry and the American Dental Educators Association.
