Description

This lecture reviews the diagnosis and management of peri-implant soft- and hard-tissue deficiencies before and after implant placement. Topics include soft-tissue augmentation procedures, guided bone regeneration and sinus augmentation techniques. Emphasis will be placed on treatment planning, surgical decision-making, evidence-based approaches, and strategies to optimize implant esthetics, function and long-term peri-implant health. 

Learning Objectives

  • Identify common peri-implant soft- and hard-tissue deficiencies before and after implant placement.
  • Evaluate indications, limitations and treatment planning considerations for soft-tissue grafting procedures around implants.
  • Describe principles and techniques of guided bone regeneration and sinus augmentation.
  • Apply evidence-based surgical approaches to optimize peri-implant esthetics, function and long-term tissue stability.

Speaker Bio 

Sarah Ringdahl, DMD, earned her DMD in 2013 from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon. She completed a one-year advanced education in general dentistry residency at Wright-Patterson AFB in 2014 and the Air Force Postgraduate Dental School’s Periodontics residency program in 2018, earning an MS from UT Health San Antonio. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and currently serves as the deputy program director for the Air Force Periodontics residency.
