9-7-20_Awards_BCongratulations to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry Student Chapter and Kay Jordan, DDS, MAGD, assistant clinical faculty member at Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry, the 2020 recipients of the AGD Student Chapter of the Year and Faculty Member of the Year, respectively.

The AGD Student Chapter of the Year was presented to the UAB School of Dentistry Student Chapter for its outstanding efforts to create programs to support fellow classmates. The chapter also organized community service and volunteer programs. It hosted multiple oral cancer screening events at various locations, including Tabernacle Baptist Church Oral Cancer Screening, Well-Being Dental Screenings at the UAB Recreation Center and the Health and Wellness Fair at the Mi Pueblo Supermarket. The chapter also worked with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the dental school and worked with UAB Habitat for Humanity to help build a house.

The AGD 2020 Faculty Member of the Year was presented to Jordan for her exceptional overall support and guidance. According to the LSU Chapter Chair Rachel Robinson, “Dr. Jordan has gone above and beyond by instilling excitement and engagement in both new and existing members by helping to organize and coordinate events. She holds the chapter student leaders accountable and is always on top of what is going on. Her involvement is admirable, especially considering her own personal obligations outside of the organization. She always gives LSU AGD her all and is passionate about making sure all students are given the information they need to know how important this organization is during both their time at LSU and in the future as a practicing dental professional. Further evidence of her passion for education is her willingness to instruct the D1 operative course part time. This encourages involvement from new students that see firsthand her dedication for our AGD student chapter. In a matter of four years, we have established almost 200 members and continue to grow more every year. In order to provide lunch and motivational speakers to all of our members, Dr. Jordan sought out and personally secured a sponsorship for the student chapter with Dentsply Sirona. This has given us further opportunity to grow the chapter by hosting more events and allowing our members to learn more about cutting-edge technology.”
