In this course, we will review the developing occlusion, including expectations in tooth eruption and orthopedic development. We will identify normal versus atypical tooth and orthopedic development and review some treatment modalities to correct these deviations in occlusion. We will conclude with a discussion of the tools available to minimize the chances of such deviations from occurring, including space maintainers and proper tools for optimal homecare.
Learning Objectives
- Review ideal occlusion and normal eruption sequence/timing.
- Showcase deviations from “typical” development and review some techniques orthodontists may employ to resolve such deviations.
- Discuss space maintenance, including which type to use and when.
