Have you been wondering why Cupid hasn’t shot an arrow your way? Is it possible that your teeth are the problem? Check to see if these five factors are standing in your way:
- Bad Breath — There are several factors that contribute to bad breath. One cause can be your diet. Often times certain food items, such as onions, can cause bad breath. However, chronic bad breath may be a sign that bacteria is present which can lead to periodontal (gum) disease. Bad breath may be an indication that other health maladies are prevalent such as hormonal imbalances and other diagnosed or undiagnosed systemic issues.
- Food in Your Teeth — Food in your teeth may be a sign that you are not flossing. Not only does flossing help to remove food particles from your teeth but it also helps to remove plaque and stubborn bacteria that might take residence in the gums. Plague builds up along the gum line causing the gums to recede possibly due to gum disease. A survey revealed that only four out of 10 people floss at least once a day. Avoid the embarrassment. Floss daily.
- Stained Teeth (Signs of enamel wear) — When tooth enamel begins to fade it is almost impossible to restore. Enamel erosion can be caused by the absence of brushing or the consumption of carbonated drinks which doubles, or sometimes triples, your chances of tooth decay. If you want that special someone to notice your smile, teeth whiting is an option to temporarily polish your teeth you may want to investigate.
- Obvious signs of tobacco and e-cigarette use — Tobacco and smoking contribute to poor oral hygiene. It stains the teeth, increases the chances of getting cavities and has been proven to be a cause of oral cancer. If you want Cupid to send you a kissable sweetheart, consider the risk factor of passing along secondhand smoke to your smoochable sweetheart.
- Excessive Tooth Loss — Excessive tooth loss can be the sign of poor oral hygiene or the presence of another systemic health issue.
If any of these reasons are standing in your way, schedule a visit with an AGD general dentist. Proper maintenance and twice-a-year checkups are key to improving the way you look and feel. Not only can your general dentist clean year teeth and examine your oral health, they can provide cosmetic whitening services, resources to quit smoking and other related services.
