Description
This lecture is intended to review the various aspects of pain management as they relate to opioids and their alternatives. It will also discuss how we as dentists can address abuse, misuse and disposal of opioid medications.
Learning Objectives
• Learn how to maintain a reasonable balance between providing appropriate pain management and minimizing the risk of misuse or abuse of opioids.
• Be able to identify misuse or abuse and intervene effectively when it occurs.
Speaker Bio
Larry N. Williams, DDS, MPH, MAGD, ABGD, graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1982 with subsequent service of 30 years in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. After retirement, Williams began serving on the faculty at the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Illinois as an associate professor working with preclinical dental students.
