Course Description: This course will update the participant about oral cancer • specifically squamous cell carcinoma. Participants will learn to recognize cancerous lesions of the oral cavity and understand how to formulate a treatment plan when malignant lesions are encountered. The relationship between human papillomavirus and squamous cell carcinoma will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
1. Develop plan for discussing prevention of oral squamous cell carcinoma with patients.
2. Discuss differences between human papillomavirus-driven oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCCa) and conventional SCCa.
3. Determine when and where to refer patients.

Speakers Bio:
Ashley Clark, DDS, DABOMP, is an associate professor of oral pathology for the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. She has earned the John H. Freeman Award for outstanding nonclinical teaching and the Dean’s Excellence Award in scholarship of teaching. She has published over 40 original papers, book chapters, and abstracts; is board-certified; and serves on the executive council for the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
