Description:

This course will review the proceedings from the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions. Topics include a description of laser-assisted therapy, its mechanism of action and several case presentations; keys to success; pearls for treatment; and a video demonstration of laser surgery for the treatment of periodontal disease.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how lasers work, including by viewing video presentations of procedures such as the laser-assisted new attachment procedure and laser-assisted peri-implantitis procedure
  • Determine the mechanism of action, compare different wavelengths and review modalities of treatment for soft tissue and hard tissue lasers
  • Understand soft tissue defects around implants and review the new classification system and example treatment options
  • Learn the maintenance protocol for patients after laser-assisted therapy
