Inaugural New Dentist Conference a Hit for PAGD
On March 30-31, the Pennsylvania AGD (PAGD) conducted its inaugural New Dentist Conference. The conference was a success, with many resident dentists and new dentists with fewer than 10 years post-dental-school experience attending. It was a fantastic opportunity for contemporaries to learn and socialize together. The 1 1/2-day conference consisted of a series of lectures by Ron Kaminer, DDS, FAGD, and Paul Goodman, DMD. Kaminer spoke about “Optimizing Workflow Through New Techniques and Technologies,” and Goodman spoke about “New Dentist Decision Making in Private Practice.”
This conference was anything but conventional. Event sponsors were given an opportunity to discuss their products and provide hands-on experience in a speed-dating format. Following the lectures, course participants and their significant others were invited to a happy hour networking session. New dentists mingled and discussed strategies for growth. To cap off the night, attendees participated in a murder dinner mystery.
The PAGD and its New Dentist Committee worked tirelessly to create a much-needed conference to help bridge the gap between dental school and practice and to encourage younger dentists to embrace all that the PAGD has to offer, including continuing education. New Dentist Committee Member and PAGD Vice President Raymond Johnson, DMD, MAGD, recounts, "We created this course as a way to break the traditional education mold and expose new dentists to a variety of topics and events, all while maintaining PAGD's commitment to unmatched higher learning. I think we certainly achieved that."
