DIRECTOR, ACCOUNTING & FINANCE
Under the direction of the Executive Director, direct all accounting and fiscal management aspects of the organization, building upkeep and improvements. Assist with organization activities and special projects as directed.
Essential Job Functions: (duties may not be ranked by order of importance)
- Management & Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise the work of the Accounting Department. Serve as mentor and coach and ensure that all work efforts are being directed to achieve the overall goals of the department.
- Develop the strategic goals and objectives of the department and adhere to quality and performance improvement standards.
- Achieve results that support and contribute to the accomplishments of the strategic plan of the organization and the department.
- Provide input on management/supervisory issues and supports and implements senior leadership decisions.
- Develop performance objectives for direct reports and support individual professional goals; provide feedback timely and appropriately.
- Serve as financial liaison to the following committees:
- Budget and Finance
- Audit
- Investment
- Compensation
- Budget and Finance
- Serve as financial consultant to the following governance bodies:
- Executive Committee
- Board
- House of Delegates
- Executive Committee
- Supervise the work of the Accounting Department. Serve as mentor and coach and ensure that all work efforts are being directed to achieve the overall goals of the department.
- Finance
- Direct development, maintenance and execution of fiscal policies, accounting and internal financial controls.
- Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of financial data, in conformity with accounting standards, and provide that information regularly to the Executive Director, Staff, AGD officers and members of the Board. Meet regularly with department heads to gain an understanding of major variances and provide mentoring and guidance.
- Review budget/actual financial reports with Financial Analysts and department management to gain an understanding of major variances, provide guidance and assist with resource management.
- Review fiscal impact on proposed contracts prior to execution and monitor fiscal compliance with contracts.
- Manage the maintenance of the banking and investment relationships.
- Oversee a cash management system that maximizes returns on idle cash from operations in accordance with appropriate risk tolerance.
- Work with other departments to develop the budget for the next fiscal year and monitor monthly budget variances and maintain the financial reporting/budget module.
- Work with other departments to forecast projected results at appropriate times during the fiscal year.

- Establishment and implementation of short- and long-range financial goals and objectives of the organization.
- Develop and analyze financial data to appraise operating results and efficiencies bearing on the fiscal soundness of the organization.
- Development and preparation of operating and capital budgets and forecasts which reflect the allocation of resources to meet organizational goals.

- Responsible for treatment of capital assets in the financial records.
- Provide tax planning and oversee the prompt and accurate filing of tax returns.
- Oversee financial activities of the AGD
- Oversee annual audits of the AGD.
- Supervise investment of funds and maintains banking relationships.
- Monitor financial systems of the organization.
- Direct development, maintenance and execution of fiscal policies, accounting and internal financial controls.
- AGD Foundation
- Oversee financial relationship and service fees between AGD and the AGD Foundation.
- Oversee financial activities of AGD Foundation
- Oversee annual audits of AGD Foundation
- Oversee filing of tax returns for AGD Foundation
- Oversee financial relationship and service fees between AGD and the AGD Foundation.
- Insurance
- Investigate and manage all commercial insurance policies (worker’s comp, event cancellation, property & casualty, travel, employment practices liability, Directors & Officers liability, policy, liability for AGDF, etc.)

- Facilities Management
- Manage AGD facilities including primary contact with the building manager, upkeep, space management, major repairs, capital improvements, and long-term storage.

Minimum Qualifications for Consideration:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; Master’s degree and CPA preferred.
Credentials (years of experience): At least six years professional management experience which includes managing accounting, automated, integrated accounting system experience. Supervisory experience required. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles required plus experience managing a professional/clerical accounting staff. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Be able to communicate authoritatively, effectively, and tactfully with AGD officers, members, suppliers and staff and present a positive image of AGD through these communications.
- Foster a collaborative work culture that is positive about implementing change.
- Possess exceptional PC skills, including advanced Excel, and ability and willingness to learn new software and programs as required.
- Experience Microsoft Great Plains strongly preferred.
- Experience with iMis preferred.
- Be able to provide computerized support for the budgeting process.
- Knowledge of federal and local tax requirements, experience in not-for profit tax compliance issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management, deadline orientation and understand meaning of confidentiality.
- Well organized, with a high degree of attention to detail, able to establish priorities, develop a budget, monitor and control expenditures.
- Able to work additional hours and travel as needed.
