Practice Management

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) works hard to prepare students for life after dental school, especially when it comes to anticipating the day-to-day challenges of building and maintaining your first practice. That’s why we not only offer students a glimpse of what they can expect post-graduation, we also educate them on the following practice management solutions offered by the AGD to ensure that our members experience success throughout their dental careers.

AGD Student Transition Manual
Download the AGD's student transition manual, You’ve Graduated, Now What?, for help on planning your new career before you even graduate so that you can hit the ground running as a new dentist. Once you become a dental professional, this manual will continue to serve as your guide, offering you business information essential to starting your first practice, including accounting, business management, financial planning, and more. And since there’s no greater teacher than experience, the manual also offers observations from practicing dentists with experience you can rely on to get a head start toward success.

AGD Career Center
Get help managing your first—or your next—career move. The AGD Career Center allows you to post your Curriculum Vitae or résumé for free, browse career listings, set up job alerts, and find resources that can provide you with career advice and tips for finding the job that suits you best. Once your practice is up and running, manage staffing effortlessly by setting up an employer account that lets you post jobs and view résumés from some of the best dentists in the profession.

Patient Referral Service
Build your patient list with help from the Find an AGD Dentist patient referral service. All AGD member dentists are automatically enrolled in this service and, when you’re ready, we’ll connect you with patients in your area through our online database. Potential patients can also find you through the year-round, toll-free service we provide to consumers to help them find qualified general dentist members in their area.

Patient Education Resources
Educate your patients on a variety of dental topics with our Oral Health Fact Sheets, which cover popular oral health issues and serve as a great patient resource when displayed in your office. The AGD also offers Smileline and Dentalnotes, newsletters through which you can communicate oral health information to your patients. Finally, promote dental health to your patients with KnowYourTeeth.com, the AGD’s consumer-based Web portal. Your patients can receive appointment reminders through the Dental Diary widget and access special online oral health resources for their family in a fun and easy format.

Legal Services
As a member, you can access The Fine Print, the AGD’s FREE insurance contract analysis service, through which AGD experts discuss your contracts with you and help you to identify potentially harmful clauses. In addition, the AGD offers members assistance with common third-party payer issues such as refunds for overpayment, denial of a claim for lack of dental necessity, down-coding, and bundling of submitted claims.

Website Tools
Take advantage of various online tools designed to enhance your practice and your career! Share success stories and brainstorm new ideas in our Practice Management member discussion forum, create your own practice website and post AGD content to it using the member Web page builder, and provide your patients with vital information about your practice when you create a professional and functional digital email signature.
