State Losses of Title VII Funds from FY05 to FY06
As funding for the Title VII Health Professions Education Training Program is again in jeopardy for fiscal year 2008, the AGD has created charts for each state that lost funding in dentistry programs from budget cuts in the federal budget from FY05 to FY06. Title VII programs are important for future general dentists as they provide fertile training environments and a way to increase access to care for patients in underserved areas.
Final FY07 Defense Reauthorization Bill
The final FY07 Defense Reauthorization bill was signed by President Bush and became law. The AGD had previously distributed an Issue Summary detailing what was included in each of the respective House- and Senate-passed versions of the bill. Then the two bills were “conferenced,” and a final version passed by both congressional chambers was sent to the president for signature.
The AGD has prepared another Issue Summary outlining what was included in this final bill. Three items of interest to general dentists are:
- Coverage of anesthesia for dental work for children covered under TRICARE;
- Changes to the Dental Corps Division of the Navy; and
- Financial incentives for professional dentists.
