This course is the first of three webinars in the “Physical Strategies of Dentistry” series, which discusses why dentists are physically at risk in their occupation and how they can be proactive to avoid and manage physical challenges. Part I will address occupational hazards, exercise and creating a plan to alleviate stress.

This course is a continuation of the “Physical Strategies for Dentistry” series, which deals with understanding the physical challenges that dentists face in their careers. This series will look at how the individual dentist can be proactive to reduce physical pain and impairments and extend their practicing life.

  • Learn how to perform multiple range-of-motion exercises that can help alleviate physical strain.
  • Understand the importance of proper strength training for dental professionals and know which muscles should be targeted when undergoing strength training.

It will also discuss how the individual dentist can be proactive in reducing physical pain and impairments and extend their practicing life.

  • Learn techniques on how to manage pain and know when to seek assistance.

Speaker Bio
  
Ralph A. Cooley, DDS, FAGD, is currently the assistant dean of admissions and student services at the UTHealth School of Dentistry in Houston, after practicing dentistry for 34 years in Conroe, Texas. Cooley has been involved with organized dentistry in many capacities through the years. Currently, he is the chair of the Dental Quality Alliance, the AGD representative on the National Code Maintenance Committee, a member of the AGD Legislative & Governmental Affairs Committee, and a delegate in the AGD House of Delegates. Cooley has a passion for sports and fitness. He played baseball at Rice University and has been involved with coaching baseball for over 20 years. He maintains that passion for fitness today as it applies to dental practice and teaches the “Dental Fitness” course to dental students as well as at continuing education meetings throughout the country.
