Description

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), collects data that is used to identify oral health disparities and inequities. This presentation will relay these data to clinicians and help them to know how to translate it into action in their clinics.

Learning Objectives 

• Learn about the NHANES collection and data and identify health inequities, disparities and trends identified in at least three different populations.
• Contrast three risk diagnoses before and after applying NHANES information to patient clinical assessments.
• Apply NHANES data collection and analysis results to reevaluate the treatment plan of a current patient of record.

Speaker Bio 
 
Gina O. Thornton-Evans, DDS, MPH, serves as team lead for Surveillance, Investigations, and Research in the Division of Oral Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and as director of the CDC Dental Public Health Residency Program. She is a recognized expert in applying disease surveillance, the epidemiology of oral disease and conditions, and monitoring national oral health indicators. She has authored 36 articles published in wide-ranging journals, from the Maternal and Child Health Journal to the Journal of Periodontology to the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice. Her DDS and MPH were awarded by the University of Michigan, and she is a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health.
