About the Exam

Get one step closer to earning your Fellowship Award (FAGD) by taking the Fellowship Exam. While the exam is challenging, AGD members have a high success rate passing the exam on their first try.

Exam Details
The Fellowship Exam consists of approximately 250 multiple-choice questions and is administered in one day, four-hour testing session. The exam includes material from all dental disciplines and strongly emphasizes clinical applications of accepted dental knowledge, techniques, and procedures.

AGD 2012 Fellowship Exam Content Changes
The content outline for the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Fellowship Exam is regularly updated. This keeps the content as current and pertinent as possible, and enables it to reflect a more thorough portrait of dentistry today. As such, two new disciplines were added to the exam: Anesthesia, Sedation, Pain Management, and Pharmacology; and Special Care Dentistry. In addition, Sleep Disorders was added to the Occlusion, TMD, and Orofacial Pain discipline, and Dentofacial Development was added to Orthodontics. Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology were blended into one discipline, while Environmental Safety and Infection Control was changed to Environmental, Workplace Safety, and Infection Control. Changes to the exam will occur with the release of the 2012 version of the Fellowship Exam.

Scoring
The exam is a norm-referenced exam, meaning that the passing score is based on what the Examination Council considers to be the minimum knowledge a general dentist must possess to be considered proficient.
